For hiking enthusiasts and pilgrims, here is a trail tailor-made for you: the Monastérium. This nearly 30-kilometer trail along the Rivière aux Rats between Dolbeau-Mistassini and Saint-Eugène-d’Argentenay showcases the remarkable heritage that bears witness to the invaluable contribution of the Trappist Fathers to the north of Lac Saint-Jean for over 125 years.
Along the route, you’ll discover the sites of the three monasteries occupied by the Trappist monks since their arrival in the northern Lac-Saint-Jean region in 1892.
The pilgrimage route will take you from the historic Pointe-des-Pères area to the Chocolaterie des Pères economic museum and the Cistercian abbey, where some 14 guest rooms and a monastery shop are available.
In Saint-Eugène-d’Argentenay, the church will be open to the public and will even welcome pilgrims wishing to spend the night there. A riverside park and a walking trail leading to an illuminated cross round out the local experience.
Beyond its historical and religious significance, this trail, built along an old rural road, reveals all the charm and poetry of the meandering Rivière aux Rats as it flows to Dolbeau-Mistassini. It also offers a chance to admire the distinctive natural beauty of the northern lake region in all its splendor, winding through blueberry fields and boreal forest.
Starting point of the Monastérium
The suggested starting point is the Regional Park Visitor Center in Dolbeau-Mistassini. Eventually, as is often the case in France and elsewhere in Quebec, a pilgrim’s passport will be available as a souvenir. It is used to collect stamps, as well as to record personal reflections on the experience.
32nd Pilgrimage Route of the Province
The Monasteriorum Pilgrimage Route is the 32nd pilgrimage route in Quebec. It builds on other religious tourism offerings in the region, such as l’Ermitage Saint-Antoine du Lac-Bouchette and Notre-Dame-de-Kapatakan, Pilgrimage Route, which stretches 215 km between Rivière-Éternité and Lac-Bouchette.

To plan a canoe or kayak trip effectively, you must, of course, choose a river and then the section you want to paddle down. This decision should be based on your paddling experience, the people you’re traveling with, the time you have available, and the kind of experience you’re looking for.
We’re talking here about canoe-camping trips on easy rivers. People often ask me: How many kilometers can you cover by canoe in a day? While the typical range is between 15 and 20 km, the answer depends on several factors:
Whether you’re paddling with young children or just adults, the dynamics are different. With children, it’s best to plan for more stops and fewer hours of paddling if you want everyone to enjoy the trip.
You may also want to make the most of the campsite in the evening by stopping early, and in the morning by setting off later. In this case, you’ll need to plan for fewer kilometers.
Water level is another factor to consider. If there’s little current, you’ll cover less distance for the same effort.
On the water, don’t underestimate the wind. When blowing head-on, it can hinder progress, particularly in a canoe. It can create waves, which make navigation more difficult. It increases the risk of hypothermia.
If there are difficult rapids, the time required to navigate them must be taken into account. This includes: the time needed to scout the rapids, set up safety measures, and even portage if necessary.
Generally speaking, it’s better to feel like you haven’t paddled enough than too much! At the end of a trip, it’s better to think: “We could have done more,” rather than “That was too long…”
The risk of paddling for too long, reaching a point of exhaustion where all you can think about is getting out of the river, is turning this wonderful adventure into a negative experience. The result: you’ll end up forgetting the good times you had before. Especially with children. That’s a shame.
On the website www.cartespeinair.org, you can find guide maps. They show launch sites, exit points, the location and class of rapids, campsites, and more. The Lac Saint-Jean area is located in Zone 06.
What to bring
The advantage of a canoe is that you can bring along quite a bit of gear.
A river trip is more likely to be a success if you have the right equipment.
When kayaking, it’s best to wear shoes that can get wet. You could use an old pair of sneakers, for example. Kayaking barefoot can make it difficult to get in and out of the boat, or if you have to walk in the water after capsizing. Most of the time, you’ll end up in the water when getting in or out of the boat, especially if you don’t want to get your feet wet and you stretch out… and splash! Avoid rain boots, as it’s quite difficult to swim with them on.
A waterproof container is useful for camping gear, spare clothes, and food. This can be a barrel or a specialized bag; it makes logistics easier. You can also use a simple bag lined with a trash bag.
You’ll need a daypack to keep rain gear, lunch, sunscreen, and snacks within easy reach. This way, you won’t have to open the waterproof container—the more you open it during the day, the greater the risk of not sealing it properly and getting everything wet if it rains or the water level drops.
When preparing meals, there’s something magical about a wood fire; at busier campsites, it might be a good idea to bring your own firewood. Rain can make the experience more challenging. A portable stove can save the day.
Bringing a tarp makes camping more enjoyable in bad weather. It allows you to eat outside while staying dry.
The management of campfires, trash, and restroom facilities must be taken into account if we want to minimize our impact on the environment. You can refer to the 7 Leave No Trace principles: https://www.leavenotrace.ca/home This way, those who come after us will feel as though they, too, are the first to pass through there.
If you want to venture onto rivers with more rapids, it may be a good idea to take a whitewater course. This will give you a solid foundation on which to build as you improve and gain experience https://canot-kayak.qc.ca/trouver-une-formation/
You may decide not to run a rapid that’s too difficult for your current skill level, but you still need to be able to stop before it or cross the river upstream of the rapid to reach the portage trail, which might be on the other side of the river.
Improving your technical skills will allow you to run a wider variety of rivers.
Fascinating animals adapted to the northern climate
No tour of the Lac-Saint-Jean region is complete without a stop at the famous Saint-Félicien Wildlife Zoo. One of a kind, the zoo features animals born in northern climates from all over the world. All of Canada’s biodiversity zones are represented, and more than 500 animals of 86 different species have made their home there—much to the delight of visitors.
For the Saint-Félicien Wildlife Zoo, it is important to recreate the animals’ natural environments to provide the residents with habitats that are as close to reality as possible. The spaces are large and stimulating for the animals, who are treated with the utmost care.
A Four-Legged Favorite
There’s no point in pretending—it’s impossible to resist the beauty of the animals at the zoo. To give you a quick overview, here are the must-sees you definitely won’t want to miss:
Gélada
The gelada is a large primate native to the highlands of Ethiopia. In Canada, the Saint-Félicien Wildlife Zoo is the only place where you can observe this fascinating species. Geladas’ facial expressions often make visitors laugh. To express their feelings, geladas tend to turn their jaws upward, creating a huge, rather goofy smile. Now very rare, the gelada is a magnificent species that you absolutely must see.
Japanese macaque
A member of the primate family, the Japanese macaque is one of the most northerly-dwelling monkeys. Thanks to its thick fur, the animal can easily adapt to sub-zero temperatures. Highly active, the three young Japanese macaques at the Saint-Félicien Wildlife Park will charm you with their acrobatics and energy. Often overlooked by visitors, they are nonetheless very endearing and certainly entertaining.
Tiger of Love
The love tiger is native to the Far East. Now on the brink of extinction, this animal is famous for its incredible fur. Still a sight to behold, with its imposing gait and striped coat, it’s a must-see on your next visit. Interestingly, a tiger’s stripes are like DNA and are therefore unique to each individual animal. Visitors are encouraged to observe the differences that make each tiger special.
Polar bear
A favorite among many visitors, the polar bear is always a must-see during a visit to the Saint-Félicien Wildlife Zoo. Their white fur, adapted to the Arctic cold, is sure to impress visitors, as are their massive paws, perfect for catching fish. You can watch the bears swim in their large pool or take a nap on the bank. The zoo is also committed to raising visitors’ awareness of global warming, which particularly affects this species.
Observing animals in their natural habitat
Si vous souhaitez contempler les animaux d’une façon différente, de multiples organismes offrent des expéditions sur le territoire du Lac-Saint-Jean, afin d’observer les animaux de la région dans leur habitat naturel.
With Aventure Raid, you can observe wolves living in semi-freedom. You’ll learn more about their way of life and how the pack functions.
Aventure Lac-Saint-Jean offers an expedition into the heart of nature to observe black bears and beavers. Accompanied by a professional guide, you’ll find yourself right in the animals’ territory, ensuring an authentic experience with the region’s finest specimens.
Parc de la Pointe-Taillon is another prime spot for observing local wildlife, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot some moose there.
Finally, if you’re a wildlife photographer, Québec Photogravie offers a photo safari by Zodiac boat on the magnificent Ouiatchouaniche River. You can also stay in a spacious observation tower in the heart of the boreal forest. The tower is equipped with everything you need to take high-quality photos.
The wildlife of Lac-Saint-Jean is a must-see and is sure to amaze you with its diversity.
The Marie-Chapdelaine RCM is brimming with attractions, each more fascinating than the last, but our absolute favorite is undoubtedly Délices du Lac-Saint-Jean. This family-owned business focuses its workforce and operations on the blueberry industry, a powerful economic driver in the RCM.
The company expanded following its successful appearance on the TV show Dans l’œil du Dragon and is now a must-visit destination in the region. During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to sample the company’s products and learn more about the blueberry harvesting process. The jam makers will also explain how blueberries are transformed into a variety of their own unique products. This product line ranges from traditional jam to blueberry barbecue sauce, as well as butter and spreads.
At Délices du Lac-Saint-Jean, traditional expertise blends with modern know-how, as the blueberry season kicks off—around late July—with family-run picking. Once the blueberries are in season, Délices du Lac-Saint-Jean offers visitors the chance to pick their own berries at its tourist blueberry farm. This activity is very popular with visitors, who often plan their vacations to Lac-Saint-Jean specifically to pick blueberries.
In short, this business—which is part of the Économusée du Québec network—has everything it takes to appeal to tourists, in addition to enjoying the unwavering support of the local community. In our opinion, it is therefore a must-see during a visit to Lac-Saint-Jean, especially for visitors who enjoy agritourism and local flavors.
Top pick Outside the MRC: Cristal du Lac, Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix
This unique business really won us over during the themed tour organized by Tourisme Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. The activity stands out from the rest because it’s the only one around Lac Saint-Jean that focuses on quartz crystals. The presence of this resource in the region is little known not only to visitors but also to the local population.
The activity appeals to both young and old. In fact, the site offers a tour of the open-pit deposit, where visitors can pick their own crystals and learn more about their geological composition. Friendly and experienced guides are on hand to lead the tour and share their passion with visitors.
For younger visitors, the “Prospection-Express” activity is perfect: visitors take a bag of sand and sift it in the stream provided on-site to collect all kinds of crystals. Visitors can then sit at the picnic tables with the guides so they can explain what they’ve collected. They can make jewelry with their crystals or even pearls, extracted directly from oysters by an oyster shucker.
The site also features an exhibition hall displaying geodes and works created by the company’s owners. The guides provide commentary on these works and present a more scientific slideshow to visitors. Cristal du Lac is a tourist attraction that has something for visitors of all ages. This attraction is a must-see in the Lac-Saint-Jean Est RCM due to the variety of activities available on-site and the passion of the owners.
I was lucky enough to spend a week in Lac-Saint-Jean in the summer of 2021.
Originally from Quebec City but living in Montreal for several years now, I was familiar with Lac-Saint-Jean by reputation, but far too many years had passed since my last visit. So it was with enthusiasm and anticipation that I embarked on this trip—and I wasn’t disappointed!
The main reason for my visit was fishing. I’d already had the chance to fish in the region in the winter, but this was a first for me in the summer. We fished for ouananiche and walleye on Lac-Saint-Jean, as well as on certain rivers, including the Ashuapmushuan. The scenery is simply magnificent, the bodies of water are numerous and nearby—making them easily accessible—and the fish species are varied.
Our lunch on Île-aux-Couleuvres, across from the Roberval marina, was one of the highlights of the trip. And I can’t fail to mention the talent and kindness of the guides I had—all pros—who made my days absolutely wonderful. I was particularly taken with Charles Dufour from Aventure Lac-Saint-Jean—a great guy, talented and well-read, who makes the fishing trip not only enjoyable but also enlightening!
I was also impressed by the dedication and efficiency of CLAP (Corporation de LACtivité Pêche Lac-Saint-Jean), which manages its resources with a masterful hand.
These few days of fishing made me realize that, when it comes to fishing, Lac-Saint-Jean has nothing to envy from many other destinations in our province. On the contrary, this region should be your first choice when you want to fish—it has everything!
Dining and Lodging
In addition to fishing, I was really excited to explore the different towns and experience the region’s cuisine and accommodations. I fell in love with several local products, including the Trappist Fathers’ blueberry chocolate, Red Champagne liqueur, and several beers from local microbreweries. The one that stood out the most to me was La Beluette, a sour beer expertly crafted by the Microbrasserie du Lac-Saint-Jean.
When it comes to lodging, the region offers a wide range of options. You can opt for a night in a luxurious, comfortable high-end hotel (Hôtel de la Boréalie in Saint-Félicien), a warm and cozy log cabin (Chalets et Spa Lac-Saint-Jean in Chambord), or choose the charm of a bed and breakfast (Buvette T in Saint-Henri-de-Taillon). Finally, there’s a notable selection of campgrounds, not to mention “glamping” options like sleeping in a yurt! I admit that this last option was my favorite part of the whole trip. We stayed in one of the yurts at the L’Oasis Recreational Tourism Village. As unique as it is, the yurt doesn’t skimp on comfort or the quality of the amenities. And my son really enjoyed this rather unusual type of accommodation!
In fact, in Métabetchouan-Lac-à-la-Croix, right across from the L’Oasis recreational resort, you’ll find Bistro La Boca, where we enjoyed a delicious meal, surrounded by the foliage of the trees lining the beautiful waterside terrace. A spot to add to your list!
While I was out fishing, my partner and my two-year-old son weren’t twiddling their thumbs! They had access to a wide variety of activities, all right nearby. The famous Saint-Félicien Wildlife Zoo was the highlight for my son, while the half-day spent with their feet in the sand at Pointe Taillon National Park was a welcome break for Dad.
In Lac-Saint-Jean, people are happy, and it shows. They’re cheerful, very welcoming, and inclusive. This trip confirmed that to me once again.
I also realized and appreciated that in Lac-Saint-Jean, every town has something unique to offer, which is why it’s important not to limit your visit to just one place. A wise tip is to stay mobile—even nomadic—and opt for a tour around the lake. It’s the most exciting way to travel in this region, and the only one that ensures you don’t miss a thing!
What if the exotic could be found right here at home? What if simply gazing out at the vastness of the lake were enough to be captivated by the tranquility this landscape inspires? What if all it took was a trip to Lac-Saint-Jean to make two lovers happy? This year, why not choose Lac-Saint-Jean and its many winter attractions to discover, savor, and enjoy the bounty of nature, whether as a couple or with your family?

Add in sausages, cheeses, dried cranberries, and even a touch of wild berries or local honey, and your culinary adventure will be a real treat!
Local products to help you prepare a delicious meal at home
Given that one of the Lac region’s MRCs alone boasts 340 local products, it is definitely possible to plan a romantic weekend where culinary delights take center stage.
At Contre-Vent or L’Orée des Champs; a visit to Bois de Cerf or one of the popular blueberry farms;

Tips for getting the most out of your snowshoe hikes
Winter can be particularly harsh in Canada, which is why snowshoeing requires a bit of planning!
Plan your route
Whether you’re a beginner or an expert snowshoer, there’s one thing to keep in mind: always plan your snowshoe route in advance! We know you have a great sense of direction, but sometimes you need to be careful—the beauty of nature can be distracting! So plan ahead by deciding where you want to go and which route to take, so you can enjoy your hike with peace of mind.
Be sure to bring a trail map
All known snowshoe trails are part of sites that provide maps of their routes. Be sure to get a map so you can stay on the right path and find your way.
Find out about the difficulty level
These signs indicate, in particular, the difficulty level of the trail you’re taking. Beginners, be wary of difficult trails that aren’t suited to your abilities! If you’re with family, make sure everyone is comfortable by choosing trails that are appropriate for everyone.
Check the weather forecast
In Quebec, and especially in Lac-Saint-Jean, the weather can be quite unpredictable! One day the sun is shining brightly, and the next day the snow keeps us indoors… Before heading out on a snowshoe hike, be sure to check the weather forecast so you can make the most of your outing!
Make sure you have the right clothes
Snowshoeing is, above all, a sport! Make sure to wear clothes that are appropriate for the weather and allow you to move comfortably: dress appropriately!
Check your equipment
What if you damaged your racket last time? Make sure you set out with equipment in good condition so you won’t be hindered during your hike—and, most importantly, so you’ll be safe with your gear!
Bring some snacks
Long walks work up an appetite. And since you’ll want to stay energized throughout your trip, be sure to pack a snack to satisfy your hunger and get you back on your feet!

Snow, snow, and more snow!
While some argue over who invented poutine and where it originated, Lac-Saint-Jean has no trouble at all being hailed as the ultimate snowmobiling paradise, year after year. Its vast territory, perfect winter temperatures, and warm welcome are all factors that make it a mecca recognized by both novice and seasoned snowmobilers alike.
Whether on trails or off-trail, the snow-laden trees and fields stretching as far as the eye can see turn snowmobile trips and days into adventures that are as athletic as they are scenic—even contemplative.
The snow-covered vastness is best savored on a snowmobile, and there is no doubt about this—neither for the locals who know the area well nor for winter vacationers from afar. There are plenty of outings, especially when you can count on favorable weather conditions bringing plenty of sunshine and snow, as well as a trail system designed to delight passionate snowmobilers.
Exploring Lac-St-Jean by snowmobile: ideal weather conditions
Just the mention of the 300 centimeters of snow that fall each year is enough to set any snowmobiler’s imagination ablaze. The inspiring landscapes, the invigorating cold, the picturesque settings, the well-maintained trails, and the vast expanse stretching as far as the eye can see never fail to delight travelers and enthusiasts of this pastime, for which the lake is renowned.
The perfect long-distance trail for true snowmobile enthusiasts
The Lac-Saint-Jean Omer Harvey Loop, stretching 408 kilometers…
408 kilometers without ever retracing your steps—exciting, isn’t it? That’s what makes this trail so appealing, and it’s sure to become a favorite among adventure lovers. From plains to mountainous terrain, and sometimes along the lake’s edge, this majestic trail is the envy of all. From the great outdoors to more urban settings, the range of lodging and dining options will also keep visitors’ schedules full.
Among the other standout routes are the Passerelle du 49e, stretching nearly 240 kilometers, and the Circuit de la Couronne, which winds through the Domaine-du-Roy RCM for 200 kilometers.
Who is Omer Harvey?
The man, who turned 80 last year, is a true pioneer of snowmobiling in Quebec and has played a major role in promoting the sport. He was initially part of a group that helped establish snowmobile clubs, and later, in the 1970s, he served as a regional representative for the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec. He went on to become its vice president during the 1980s and 1990s. During that same decade, he was part of a delegation tasked with exploring snowmobiling among our European neighbors. In the early 2000s, he traveled across the province with other snowmobilers to record geolocation data for the trails. Having trained several trail patrol members throughout his impressive career, it’s safe to say that this winter sport has always been a part of his life; in fact, even today, you can still spot him crisscrossing the many trails, dressed all in white!
A circuit relaunched in 2021
The trail had existed for quite some time but had fallen into disuse over the years. Wishing to bring back the trail bearing this name so well known in Lac-Saint-Jean, the Lac-Saint-Jean snowmobile clubs joined forces to give it a new lease on life. As a result, the trail now has all the necessary signage so that snowmobilers can enjoy it happily and safely.
Departure from St-Félicien
Maps and driving apps often suggest starting the tour in Saint-Félicien. In addition to the Saint-Félicien Wildlife Park and the Domaine des Trois-Îles, which offers unique accommodations in its colorful, beautifully appointed “coolboxes,” the town invites visitors to explore its local flavors, including the La Chouape Microbrewery, La Maison du Bleuet, the Fromagerie de la Ferme des Chutes, and the Boulangerie Moisson d’Or.
A first step into the great outdoors
This pristine wilderness, affectionately known as “Le Haut du Lac,” offers scenery you won’t find anywhere else. Almost desert-like in some places, the route takes you through Girardville, among other towns.
We recommend the Chute à l’Ours Campground, which offers dining and lodging in wooden cabins and welcomes a large number of snowmobilers every year.
A stop at the Domaine du Ranch de Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc is also recommended. This is a unique snowmobile lodge that will charm nature lovers.
And why not combine snowmobiling and fishing with some ice fishing on the Péribonka River at the Vacances Vauvert site, which is accessible by snowmobile throughout the summer season!
The second half of the route takes you closer to the towns and villages around the lake
As you head back down toward Saint-Henri-de-Taillon—taking a deep breath of fresh air along the way—you’ll pass through several towns and villages, rest stops, and (yet again!) scenic views.
From Alma to the end of the loop, you’ll discover the tourist lake
As the seat of the Lac-Saint-Jean Est RCM, Alma is the most urban center in the Lac-Saint-Jean region. Nevertheless, it is just as welcoming and imbued with the same warmth and friendliness found in the various towns around the lake. It offers four fatbike and mountain bike centers, nearly 100 gourmet stops, and several microbreweries, including Riverbend and Lac Saint-Jean.
Finding a place to stay during the trip
After a day of snowmobiling, with your cheeks flushed from the fun and the fresh air, there’s nothing better than a comfortable night’s sleep in a well-deserved place to rest. Here are a few suggestions for places to stay during your visit to Lac-Saint-Jean.

A rest stop, often run by a snowmobile club, an organization, a municipality, or a private individual, provides a place to stop and restock supplies. As a seasonal stopover, rest stops are a common sight in the magnificent “Land of Blueberries.” In fact, they can be found throughout the region in as many formats and styles as you could wish for.
Among them are the Buttes de St Félicien rest stop, the Chute-à-l’Ours rest stop in Normandin, the Lac-à-Jim Resort in Saint-Thomas-Didyme, the former recreation center in Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, the Domaine du Ranch de Sainte-Jeanne-D’Arc, and the Au Clocher snowmobile stop in Saint-Stanislas.
A few restaurants along the way
It’s not just at the rest stops that you can enjoy a good meal—there’s great food all around the lake. Among other places, we highly recommend the brand-new Microbrasserie Bercée in Hébertville and the restaurant Le Rigolet in Métabetchouan.
Fun activities for the road
It’s always a good idea to take a break for a few hours during a day of snowmobiling to enjoy a fun or educational activity. In Alma, you can immerse yourself in a whole new world at the Escaparium du Lac, a fully immersive escape room. The Odyssée des Bâtisseurs is a must-see cultural attraction in Alma.
Fantastic winter sports in Lac-St-Jean

Heading to Lac-Saint-Jean and leaving our cozy home behind for a truly magical getaway sometimes calls for a bit of creativity when it comes to choosing where to stay. In Lac-Saint-Jean, we invite you to enhance your stay or vacation with one or more nights at an impressive array of sites offering yurts, Coolboxes, uniquely designed cottages, or inns and bed-and-breakfasts that will delight you with their warm hospitality and beautiful accommodations. Let the adventure begin!
Treat yourself to a unique vacation
Whether you’re traveling alone, with family, with friends, or as a couple, the lake and its hosts eagerly await your visit all year round, with a range of hotels and lodging options sure to charm seasoned adventurers from Quebec and beyond.
Glamping, a portmanteau of “glamour” and “camping,” is literally the perfect blend of camping—traditionally known for its varying levels of comfort—and luxury accommodations. As a result, it often combines natural and picturesque settings with comfort, exceptional views, and thoughtful touches, such as baskets of local products left for you upon arrival.
Domaine L’Orée des Bois
Located in the Maria-Chapdelaine RCM, specifically in Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, Domaine L’Orée des Bois offers exceptional accommodations. Lina, the owner, has thought of everything! The site’s yurts, which vary in size, are tastefully decorated, and nothing has been left to chance. On-site, they produce delicious products such as wine and wild blueberry sparkling wine, as well as fruit-flavored liqueurs made with camerise or raspberries, which you can enjoy right there. You can also book a private tour of the cellar where these are crafted. Upon arrival, you’ll find a main building that looks like a large country farmhouse. You’re sure to fall in love with it! Surprise! You can even enjoy yoga sessions in a sun-drenched room with a truly relaxing atmosphere.
Camping Tchitogama
Located in the municipality of Lamarche, the Tchitogama Campground and Marina offers campsites with amenities or for backcountry camping, four well-equipped cabins, and a POD (a cabin with a rounded roof that looks like it came straight out of *The Lord of the Rings*) for those looking to experience—or rediscover—glamping. Located right on the water, you can access the beach and launch your boat if needed. Pets are even welcome, subject to certain restrictions.
Sleeping on the water in an Igloft
What is an Igloft?
The Igloft is a small cabin built on the water (in this case, on ice, since it’s only open for lodging in winter when Lac-Saint-Jean is frozen) that, surrounded by ice, looks like a reimagined version of an igloo. A Nordic getaway or a truly exotic adventure awaits you!
The Coolboxes at Domaine des Trois-Îles
Jérôme, the owner, has created a veritable micro-village with these urban cabins right in the heart of Saint-Félicien. These colorful cabins are fully equipped and ready to welcome you. Best of all, their large windows offer breathtaking views of the surroundings.
Different configurations
This unique type of accommodation will appeal to both hotel lovers and those who prefer cabins. Whether in a loft-style layout or with a separate bedroom, the Coolboxes are equipped with everything you need for a weekend getaway with a partner or friends. You’ll also find a BBQ for grilling up some great steaks when the weather permits. In addition, the site offers the option of staying in a log cabin.
A period-style stay in Val-Jalbert
Val-Jalbert, which recently opened for the winter season, also offers the option of staying in historic homes, camping, or spending the night in small cabins or even in the general store.
Several accommodation options
Magasin général
Located on the upper floors of the general store, the rooms have been tastefully decorated to reflect the style of the era. These charming rooms are also certified as 3-star accommodations by the Quebec Tourism Industry Corporation.
Minichalets
Designed to accommodate four people and equipped with electrical hookups, the mini-cabins are also a cross between camping and a hotel. By choosing to stay overnight on the grounds, you’ll also enjoy exclusive access to the activities offered by the enchanting and renowned Chambord site.
The perfect camping experience in a yurt
The yurt consists of a single room. It is a traditional dwelling of Mongolian and Turkish nomads that originated about 2,000 years ago. Its rounded walls and open ceiling make it a unique—and incredibly serene—place to stay!
In Desbiens, you’ll find Glamping Parc Rivière Métabetchouane, described by its promoters as an affordable, eco-friendly, and luxurious alternative lodging option. Whether in a yurt or a teepee, the site promises a memorable experience. This year-round destination is located right next to the Métabetchouane River and at the foot of the Jumeaux Mountains, and offers direct access to Lake Saint-Jean.
At the Village récréotouristique l’Oasis, you’re invited to “travel in the present moment.” The yurts, again offered as ready-to-camp/glamping options, can accommodate between 1 and 10 people, depending on the option chosen.
Sleeping with the Wolves
When it comes to tourist destinations that combine lodging, exploration, and discovery, Aventuraid is the expert! In fact, you can not only book extended dog-sledding trips (5 to 6 days) here, but also stay in cabins of various sizes and styles. During your stay, you’ll be right in the heart of a wolf pack living on the vast property of the owner, Gilles, who will gladly share his knowledge about this mysterious and majestic animal with you.
